The card is a quarter of the sheet: A6 from A4 on any home printer, A5 from A3 if your printer takes it. An A4 card would need A2 paper, which means a copy shop.
Why make a card at home
It prints on one side of a single sheet, so any home printer works, and it takes about three minutes to fold.
A shop card says what a stranger wrote. A photo card says you remembered the day you took the picture. Pick the Big Day Birthday template for a bright card, or Just Because for a scrapbook feel, then change the greeting, the colours and the fonts until it sounds like you.
One A4 sheet makes an A6 card that fits a standard C6 envelope, and US Letter makes a 4.25 × 5.5 in card. Add a matching envelope and gift tag from the gift kit if the card goes with a present.
Their photo on the front
Drop in a photo and the frame crops it for you. A second photo or a big greeting can go inside, with a message block and a signature line.
One side, two folds
Front, inside and back print on one side of one sheet. The inside prints upside down on purpose; the first fold turns it the right way up.
Help with the words
Optional story prompts suggest a way in when the blank message box stares back. Every line stays editable.
Envelope included if you want it
The gift kit adds an envelope sized to the card, gift tags and a paper sleeve in the same colours as your card.
A few folds from finished
4 steps, printed on one side. The full instruction sheet with checks and a common-mistakes box comes with your PDF.
1Print the sheet. One page, portrait, 100% scale, one side.
2Fold the top half behind. Keep the print on the outside.
3Fold left behind right. Fold the left half back behind the right half so the front ends up on top.
4Press it flat. Put the card under a heavy book for a few minutes so it stays closed.

Card questions
Is the birthday card maker free?
Yes. Your first project is free up to 16 pages and a card uses four, so there is nothing to pay and no account to create. Nothing is watermarked on the card.
What paper should I print a birthday card on?
160 to 200 gsm matte card through your printer's rear or manual tray. Plain 100 gsm paper works too but feels more like a leaflet than a card.
Why is half of my card upside down on the page?
That half becomes the inside of the card. Fold the top half behind the bottom half and it turns the right way up. It is meant to print that way.
How big is the finished card?
A quarter of the sheet: 105 × 148 mm (A6) from A4, about 108 × 140 mm from US Letter, and A5 from A3 if your printer takes A3 paper.
Can I make a card for a child's party with several photos?
Yes. Use a template with two photos inside, or make a photo-booth strip to tuck into the card as a keepsake.
