Why make a strips at home

Reading Corner alternates two designs: a photo in the upper half with a quote below, and a full-bleed photo with a title near the bottom. Tall, narrow photos suit a bookmark best: a doorway, a tree, a lighthouse, someone standing.

A photo bookmark is a small gift that gets used every day: for a reader, a teacher, a grandparent with a stack of library books, or as something to hand out at a memorial service with a favourite line on it.

Punch circle marked

Each bookmark has a circle at the top showing where to punch the hole for a ribbon or a loop of string.

Five per sheet

One A4 sheet makes five bookmarks of about 59 × 210 mm. Cut on the tick marks.

Photo plus words

Add a quote, a line from the book you are giving, or the thing they always say.

Sturdy on card

Print on 200 to 300 gsm card so it does not curl, and round the corners with scissors if you like.

Strips questions

Can I make bookmarks double-sided?

Not yet. Print on heavy card so the plain back looks intentional, or glue two bookmarks back to back.

What size is a photo bookmark?

About 59 × 210 mm from A4 paper and 56 × 216 mm from US Letter, a fifth of the sheet's width.

How do I add a ribbon?

Punch the marked circle with a single hole punch, fold a 25 cm ribbon in half, push the loop through and pull the ends through the loop.

Should I laminate them?

Laminating makes them last for years. Punch the hole after laminating so the seal stays intact around the edge.
